5PM – Beginner Digital Illustration

March 29, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

MONDAY CLASS

Today we finished our Corgi Puppy project!

Homework

Draw another animal using the same process we used in class.

This homework is a little harder and might take you a few days, so give yourself enough time to finish it as best as possible. If you run into any problems, that’s okay, just keep going and do your best. Bring your questions to class!

To start – Find or Take a photo of an animal you want to draw.

Then – Open a new canvas, and make it 2000 x 2000

Step-by-step:

  1. Import the photo of the animal you decided.
  2. Transform the image to fill the page nicely, not too small, not too big.
  3. Lower the opacity to 40% (it can be higher or lower if you can’t see it)
  4. New Layer – Trace the lines of your animal
  5. Import the same animal image again, but this time transform it into a small version into the corner. Make sure it doesn’t touch your drawing.
  6. New Layer (under the lines)
  7. Use the magic wand tool to select the sections you are coloring to help stay inside the lines.
  8. Add color swatches to your drawing using the color picker and using the little reference picture to grab colors. Make sure to use enough colors for each section. At least 3 for smaller sections, and more for bigger sections.
  9. Clean up your coloring to make sure everything is inside the lines.
  10. Blur the colors to make everything smoother. – Use the blur tool, soft dip brush, 60% opacity
  11. Add any details that still need to be added.

Here’s a VIDEO of our process for the puppy, to help you with your homework if you want to remember what we did in class.
